Lab 14.1 Part I Work with the SUID permission 1. Read pages 346 - 349 in your book 2. Start up your FC9 system 3. Access a virtual terminal and login as root 4. View a program that has the SUID bit set by typing the commandls -l /bin/ping 5. View a program that does not have the SUID bit set by typing the commandls -l /bin/rmdir 6. Make a test directory with the command mkdir /test 7. Switch to another virtual terminal and login as yourusername 8. Attempt to delete the/test directory with the command rmdir /test 9. Switch back to the virtual terminal where you are logged on as root 10. Make the rmdir command run as the root user with the commandchmod u+s /bin/rmdir 11. Switch back to the virtual terminal where you are logged on as yourusername 12. Delete the/test directory with the command rmdir /test 13. Type the command ls -l /bin/rmdir 14. Take a screen shot of this and submit it to the class web site ( Example <. ./images/Ch14-1-1.jpg> ) 15. Switch back to the virtual terminal where you are logged on as root
