Military knew planning attack; didn't know when or where Dec 7, 1941 Bombing Pearl Harbor attack and kill 2400 American psychological impact was devastating to Americans never been attacked on own soil Next day FDR ask for war isolationism->interventionism concur by all but one vote for war Germany and Italy declare war because of pact in turn U.S declare war on Germany Outlook for Victory very bleak Hitler army control virtually all of Europe Despite aggression pact, invaded USSR land British back into Egypt and threaten to control Suez Canal Japan move unopposed to all of South Africa all of pacific first year not good for U.S America U.S prepare for 1940 elections: FDR serve 2 terms and seek 3 term
