Watergate #2: On Saturday, June 17, 1972, six people were caught leaving the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee with photographic equipment and blue gloves. These burglars were not only caught with walkie-talkies etc, but they were also caught with an excessive amount of fresh money. The FBI was suspicious about where the money came from and who provided the money for them, so they traced the serial number on the money to see its origin. The burglars who were caught on that day were James W. McCord, and four other Cubans along with some other people working for the government. Watergate #3: While tracing where the money was coming from they figured out that some of the money was coming from Nixon’s campaign funds which is illegal. Money was given to the people involved with the Watergate scandal to keep quiet and the burglars and all other people shared the same stories saying that the president did not know what was going on and they all agreed to stay quiet. Due to this, the cover up was a success and the truth about the Watergate remained hidden. The burglars went back to the headquarters of the democratic National Committee a second time for the purpose of replacing the bugging devices on O’Brien’s phone.
