Bobby Krivitsky Sally Spalding CRS 225 Project #1 Informative Speech- Contextual/Audience Analysis (Blogs) One Man’s Take on the 2000 Presidential Election Contextual Analysis: 1. Political History: Bill Clinton was coming off of a controversial term as President. Clinton’s second stint in office was filled with controversy, including a highly publicized sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky. Given that Clinton was a Democrat it certainly did not bode well for Democratic candidate Al Gore. Gore did have one significant advantage however, Gore was vice president during Clinton’s presidency, a stint that despite being marked by controversy was also considered to be a golden age, featuring economic peace and prosperity. 2. Steven Robert Travers mainly focused on Democratic candidate Al Gore. Travers spoke very highly of Gore, primarily focusing on his positive attributes and his strengths as a candidate. This indicates that Travers is not only Democrat but also an Al Gore supporter. 3. Steven Robert Travers appears to be targeting a democratic audience. Travers may also have been targeting independents and republicans in an attempt to persuade them to vote for Gore. Primary Audience: Gore Supporters Secondary Audience: Undecided voters National Audience (presidential election)
