Bobby Krivitsky CRS 225 Joyous Rescue A. Claim: This New York Times editorial is about the miners in Chile, who were trapped deep inside a cave and forced to remain there for seventeen days. Despite minimum food and water, all thirty-three miners were able to make it out of the cave alive, and even appeared to be in good health. The claim made in this editorial, is that the fact that all thirty-three miners were able to survive the epidemic is nothing short of a miracle; a miracle that could not have come at a better time for both Chile who was recently the victim of a devastating earthquake, and the world who has seen so much devastation and depression lately. B. Grounds: When attempting to justify their claim the author of the editorial focuses on just how improbable it was that all thirty-three miners would survive the cave- in and how it was even more unlikely that they all would come out in good health.
