Bobby Krivitsky History 210 Dan Golden September 3, 2011 Assignment 1 Theodor Mommsen: Theodore Mommsen is considered to be one of the most important German classical scholars of the nineteenth century. To this day, Mommsen’s comprehensive use of sources and precise critique are still regarded as exemplary. Mommsen also proved himself to be a master of scholarly prose. In 1902, Mommsen received the Nobel Prize in literature for the History of Rome. Michael Rostovtzeff: Michael Rostovtzeff is widely considered to be the most famous European emigree to give Roman scholarship in the United States. Rostovtzeff left Russia for the United States during the Revolution and accepted a position at the University of Wisconsin. In 1925, Rostovtzeff was appointed the Sterling Professor of Ancient History and Archaeology at Yale. Rostovtzeff’s positivistic universal approach to scholarship
