Jake Stern ENG 112 Informal Essay First Semester of College I had no idea what to expect entering into my first semester of college. I have had the same group of friends for the past 10 years of my life and didn’t know what it was going to be like trying to make new friends. I also didn’t know what to expect from my classes here compared to high school. My older sister is a senior here at Miami, which made the first couple weeks a lot easier for me socially and academically. I was nervous and excited about leaving home and starting a new chapter in my life. College is not only a time to learn, but also a time to grow as a person and find out more about yourself. The next four years will hopefully be filled with memories and experiences that I will remember for the rest of my life. My first experience here at Miami was an embarrassing one that occurred on the first day of class. I was still not sure where my first class was so

Unformatted text preview: when I finally found it, I was already ten minutes late, so naturally everyone’s eyes were on me when I walked in. I sat down, and all of the sudden I found myself on the ground. I had tried to sit in a chair that was further away from me than I expected. Although it wasn’t a big event, it was my first experience as a student at Miami University and a story that I will remember for a while. I believe a successful college career is being able to enjoy yourself as well as working hard studying something you are interested in. My goal throughout the next four years is to figure out exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life. I plan to do this by taking a bunch of different classes and deciding what interests me and what doesn’t. So far, my first semester went very well and I took basic courses that allowed me to study a number of different subjects and I plan to continue that my second semester....
