August 29, 2011 SOC 482 A What is Sociology? What is sociology and why do we as human beings feel the need to study this discipline? Interestingly enough, society only exists because people have made it exist. If we do not make society happen, then it is not real. But what is a society? There are many components that make up our world and our interactions we have with one another as people and as institutions. Sociology deals with analyzing and reflecting on these societal components. The origins, developments, and structure of humans and institutions in the world are all the basic components of what makes up a society. Sociology discusses the problems with our world and how we can improve the hardships and turmoil that people face on a daily basis. Sociology observes the fact that humans created society and will keep on re- creating this society for generations to come. But throughout time, our society and its rules and norms have changed and will change, for better or for worse.
