Civic engagement is defined as individual and collective actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern. As Americans we wouldn’t be the country we are today without civic engagement. I am going to talk about my act of Civic engagement for this class, Involvement of Americans in civic engagement today and some history on two famous acts of civic engagement and the role they played in our history. Recently I took part in community service for civic engagement. I am in a fraternity on campus and as a part of my civic engagement requirement we cleaned up the stream running from Moscow to Pullman. Although it was a relatively small job the Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute was grateful to have our help, they said that our work was worth $20 an hour to them and without the help from volunteers like us the stream clean up would never have happened. In the past American Democracy have had times of triumph as a direct result of civic engagement, the most memorable being the civil rights movement in the 1960’s. However our
