Running Head: CyberCars: AN ONLINE ONLY AUTOMOBILE SALES BUSINESS The decade after the year 2000 has been very hard on automobile dealerships. Following the dot com bubble burst the United States has been living in an uncertain economic climate. The 'Big Three' of American automakers-General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler-all relied on the United States Government for their survival (Racanelli, 2008). Very recently Standard and Poor's downgraded the United States of America's credit rating to AA+, from the coveted status of AAA (Riley, 2011). In an environment of uncertainty and fear this country needs businesses focused on efficiency. CyberCars is an online only automobile dealership physically located in California that delivers automobiles anywhere in the continental United States. CyberCar's mission statement reflects this goal: "CyberCars is an cutting edge, imaginative, online only automobile sales business aimed at offering consumers across the United States a easy to use and efficient way to purchase new and used automobiles. Our goal is strong annual growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction with the intent of return business in all of our sales." The only location of our business will be California. The purpose of this choice is for two reasons. First, the rule for online sales is that if you have a physical presence in the state you must collect state taxes when making sales online. California has been a state that has very actively challenged the principle that only businesses with physical presences need to pay state tax. By choosing California we avoid any future litigation with the state of California by accepting to pay state tax to them. The other reason for choosing California is its location on the West Coast of the United States.
