Group Discussion Board 1 Karen White Internet November 5, 2011 Liberty University BUSI 680 “When the Department of Defense (DOD) issued a $19,800 contract on December 6, 1967, for the purpose of studying the "design and specification of a computer network," the world didn't take notice. But it should have. For, from that small, four-month study grew the ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). And, from ARPANET emerged the Internet” (“Internet History”, 2007). In 1968, a contract was issued with the intention of designing, constructing, installing, testing, and maintaining four interface message processors (IMPS) that would connect computers at the Stanford Research Institute, the University of California-Santa Barbara, the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), and the University of Utah. As a result, from the IMPS beginnings the ARPANET was born. The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network or ARPANET (The first Internet) was developed in 1969.
