Informed by the interdisciplinary perspectives of history, political science, sociology and  economics introduce students to key events and ideological contours of US history from the  Age of Jackson through the Progressive Era. 2. Introduce students to the 19 th  and early 20 th- century patterns and dimensions of migrations  which reshaped American identity and labor organization. 3. Help students analyze the various manifestations of democracy, republicanism, free and slave  labor, women’s mobilization, capitalism and expansionism; evaluate the impact of war,  internationalism, the emergence of Eugenics, and the maturation of the state. 4. Fulfill General Education History and Writing Requirement. Required Texts Frederick Douglass,  Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass Jackson Lears,  Rebirth of a Nation John Majewski,  History of American Peoples, 1840-1920: Primary Source Reader, 2 nd  ed. James L. Roark, et al.,  The American Promise, 4 th  ed. All the books are available at the UCen bookstore and are on reserve in the library.
