Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: • measure water discharge in a river • derive unit hydrographs and flow frequency statistics • model water flow, e.g. from rain to rivers, in hydrological software and by numerical methods • use flood routing hydraulic software and GIS to create flood risk maps • calculate river depths, widths, sediment transport, etc. based on measured values of water discharge and sediment characteristics
