Unformatted text preview: CHAPTER 5 & 6 MOTIVATION & STRESS CH 5 - MOTIVATION u Motivation is an intrinsic driving force. u As a leader, we can only try to stimulate or influence others to motivate themselves. u Motivation comes from within the individual, not from the OUTSIDE. Maslows hierarchy of human needs When a need at one level is satisfied and is no longer a driving force, that need loses its strength and the next level is activated. Lower-order needs are satisfied externally. Higher- order needs are satisfied internally. Alderfers erg model 3 part model (ERG) Existence needs Includes the physical and safety needs from Maslows. Relatedness needs Includes the social and esteem needs from Maslows. Growth needs Includes the internal self-esteem needs and the self- actualization needs from Maslows. Multiple needs may be operative at the same time. Herzbergs motivation-hygiene theory- Divides job factors into satisfiers and dissatisfiers....
