Zach Fashbaugh Assignment 2 November 7, 2011 BMZ 115 B BMZ 115 B Assignment Two Global warming is an issue of growing concern in our ecosystem. The earth’s surface temperature has increased significantly in the last 100 years. There are many factors that have contributed to global warming but one of the main factors is pollution, such as carbon dioxide (Brooker 1141). Autotrophs, also known as primary producers, such as plants, algae, and cyanobacteria use photosynthesis to attain carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Primary producers provide material that is converted into coal, gas, and oil. These are collectively known as fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are natural fuels that are the burned remnants of dead prehistoric organisms (Brooker 1254-1255). Much of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is due to fossil fuels. Our society depends on fossil fuels for resources and one of the most important resources is fuel. Fuel has a large impact on our economy and society as a whole. However, the process of producing diesel from crude oil secretes large amounts of carbon into the earth’s atmosphere. The amount of carbon
