Week 4 Discussion Question 1 How do your surroundings affect your reading comprehension? How might you minimize distractions while you are reading for your class assignments? The surroundings affect reading comprehension in a big way, they play a big key in maintaining concentration and study techniques, and it can make a difference between actually understanding what you are reading or just reading the words without understanding the context or the meaning. They can be very distractive at a crucial moment of a particular sentence that will connect the rest of the paragraph. If the surroundings are very relaxed and quite, the reader is more likely to understand and retain what they are studying. The best way to minimize distractions while reading class assignments is to first use a place that makes us feel relaxed and comfortable, has no background noises or detractions, well lit, and let other people know we are reading and asking them not to interrupt us at anytime. Carol, I find it quite hard to concentrate on my studies when there are noises in the background, especially the TV. I find it to be very distracting and it always makes me loose focus since I tend to switch from what reading or writing and start listening to the TV, then I will have to start all over again. I am wondering is this something that have gotten use to
