EE 230 Homework 12 Spring 2010 Assume all MOS transistors have model parameters μ n C OX =100 μ A/V 2 , V Tn =1V, and λ =0. Correspondingly, assume all BJT transistors have model parameters J S A= 10 -12 A , β =100, and V AF = . For the data converter problems, use the CAD tool of choice. EXCEL, Matlab, or C are some tools you have available that should be useful for solving these problems. Problem 1 a) Draw the small signal equivalent circuits. Assume Q 1 is in the Forward Active region, the capacitors are large, and V M is small. b) Determine the quiescent output voltage c) Determine the small signal voltage gain. Page 1 of 4

Problem 2 a) Draw the small signal equivalent circuit. Assume M 1 is in the saturation region, Q 1 is in the Forward Active region, the capacitors are large, and V M is small. b) Size the transistor M 1 so that the quiescent output voltage is 5V. Assume L 1 =2u. c) With the device sizing used in part b), dtermine the small signal voltage gain. 400K DD V OUT 1 1 1 V (t)=V M sin( ω t+ θ ) Problem 3 A multimeter displays 4 decimal digits. How many bits of resolution is needed for an ADC internal to the multimeter if the full-scale output is to be accurate to 1 decimal digit. Problem 4
