1. In the first assignment of HW 7 you were supposed to list consonant correspondences between two closely related languages. When establishing correspondence sets for two languages you should look at each consonant that is present in the cognate forms. Even if the cognate forms have similar consonants and the consonant do not change you should provide the correspondences between theses consonants. Only in this way you will be able to get the whole picture of correspondences and to establish regular sound correspondences in the two languages. It is this recurring regularity that helps us show that the two languages were earlier one-and-the-same language, and it is why we are able to define theses languages as closely related. As you noticed the comparative word list provided in your text book contains some words that are exactly the same in form: Lusi Bariari kalo kalo ‘frog’ some words differ slightly from one another in some of the consonants: tazi tad ‘sea’ so, include sounds into your correspondence sets that even do not change.
