APPLICATION OF GRAND THEORY2Application of Grand TheoryIn this post, two grand theories will be discussed. The philosophers who derived thesetheories are Imogene King and Margaret Newman. Grand theories are complicated and broadideas that pertain to the nursing practice.King’s and Newman’s TheoriesThe theory of goal attainment was thought of but Imogene King. This theory has to dowith the interpersonal relationship between the nurse and the patient (Caceres, 2015). Kingexplains factors that may interfere with achieving goals such as roles, stress, space, and time(Petiprin, 2016). King’s theory is multidimensional and includes personal, interpersonal, andsocial systems (Caceres, 2015). King believed that if the nurse and patient cannot perceive eachother, the situation, or communicate, transactions are not made, and goals will not be achieved(Meleis, 2018).Margaret Newman’s theory of health as expanding consciousness was derived frompracticing caring relationships with patients (Petiprin, 2019). She believed no matter the illness,prognosis, or situation; a person can find meaning in life and reach a new level of connectionwith others (Petiprin, 2019).
