RODNEY BUCKMIRE MODULE 3 – SLP OPM300 Wal-Mart has several business activities to include procurement, marketing and logistics. There decision-making in product designs centers around these basic areas. Primarily, product design is centered on its suppliers. They do business with approximately 60,000 suppliers and 100,000 different items. Even though they do not design products themselves they influence their suppliers to develop specific products to meet their needs. Even though the lifecycle can be an intricate part of most businesses, Wal-Mart has the ability to continuously distribute its products in a timely manner before it reaches its decline. This is done by a well planned out strategy and analytical decision making. Wal-Mart considers itself as a follower of product designs and generally waits for other companies to come up with new innovations and designs. They believe the key is not so much in new product designs but deciding what products are the most sought after and reaching the widest part of the market.
