A Battle for Global Values Questions Jacob Schaaf The Roots of Extremism 1. We can only win if we show that our values are better, stronger, and more just then the alternative. 2. The Arab world was uncertain, insecure and on the defensive. Political radicals be- came religious radicals. 3. The fight was unwise because there was a good chance that Muslims would choose to reject fanaticism. The enemy that the extremist adopted was the western world The Nature of the Struggle 4. We should definitely not be blamed for the failure in Iraq and Afghanistan, the terrorist and extremist should be blamed. The ideology that most western people have is that if we got out of Iraq and Afghanistan the attacks would stop, and that the attacks are our own faults. Two Fronts 5. The societies in Iraq and Afghanastan are more then willing to accept democracy. Muslims have stated clearly that democracy is as much a right of theirs as it is of ours.
