Final Position Paper The issue of “peace in the middle east” was significant to our nation because of the problems that Syria has caused. Syria has sold scud missiles to neighboring coun- tries making Israel very mad. Syria has said that they are all for peace in the middle east, but selling scud missiles to other countries does not agree with their peace state- ments. The policy objectives of Syria in the IR simulation were to gain alliances with the great powers of the world. Mr. Figgens and I were able to gain an alliance with one of the most powerful countries in the world, the United Kingdom. Previously, our only ally was Iran. With our new alliance with the UK, we came close to our most important polit- ical goal, Regaining the Golan Heights from Israel. Israel of course, did not like this. The main strategy that we used was to be friendly to all countries, promote peace, and admit our wrong doings. When we came out and stated that we did in-fact sell scud missiles, I believe that other countries respected us more and realized that Syria is
