Roberto Avila Instructor Jennie Pitts Dan 266 27 September 2011 Capoeira: Beyond the Dance The dance of Capoeira radiates more than movement when one enters the realm of the Brazilian art form. The essence of discipline, technique and honor is easily felt when in he presence of those who live and breath the dance. Beyond being only a dance, Capoeira has derived years of ancient combat and plantation labor motions to represent a culture of hardened and free spirited individuals. I walked into what would seem like a long dance course a day after a night of celebrating my 20 th birthday. Suffering from a brutal hangover, I knew just like any other situation I would have to make the most of it on this Saturday. Entering the studio, I saw the stacks of collected people awaiting the instructor dreading it as much as I did. As the class began, the stiff and weary class went through a series of motions to begin loosening up and break any remaining ice the ice was broken and bodies began to loosen and get
