Many answers are acceptable, here are 3 examples: -to transfer the load when a fiber breaks -to protect the fibers from damage -to provide some transverse strength *“To hold fibers together” was given partial credit unless it was explained well. Generally, fibers are woven into fabrics so they do not need the matrix to hold them together. If you explained that it holds the layers of fibers together or that the shape is held because of the matrix, full credit was given. *Protection from moisture is not fully correct. The matrix does help moisture resistance, but this effect is minimal.
