In the movie “Sweet Home Alabama” it shows issues that society deals with such as divorce, prejudice of having the right background and it does it with a smile. It is a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon. She is an up and coming New York clothing designer who finds herself engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor. She has a few skeletons in her closet one of them being her husband Jake who she married in high school. Jake refuses to divorce her. She returns to Alabama determined to end the marriage and cut all ties with her past. But once Melanie reaches home it beings to tug on her heartstrings, and what she thought her heart wanted may not be what it wants at all. In the beginning of the movie Melanie becomes engaged to New York’s most eligible man. His mother is the Mayor of New York. She is upset by the engagement because she feels that Melanie is not good enough to marry her son.
