If she spent her years as a mother and not working, this is extremely beneficial because her benefits are higher a.ii. If the husband dies, her benefits will most likely be downgraded b. Males have a shorter life expectancy so usually they are sick before the females (lecture 17) b.i. If you are married, you have someone to take care of you during those years of sickness b.ii. If you trip and fall and crack your head open, someone is there to help you and take you to the hospital as soon as possible (if you lived alone, you might not make it to the hospital as quickly) c. According to the article, “Does Marriage Matter?” by Waite, people who are married are less likely to have drinking problems. d. Much lower levels of unhealthy risk behaviors of married people than unmarried people (Waite) e.
