What do books offer that television doesn’t? There are many reasons why the availability of television and cable hasn’t substantially decreased the number of new book titles available each year. Books continue to be a preferred medium because of their convenience and prestige. For the longest time, history and every day experiences have been explained through books. Not only do books pass along stories and knowledge from generation to generation, but also even today they continue to tell stories with both fiction and nonfiction. Unformatted text preview: imagination than television shows and movies. After reading a book, you feel everything that happened, as if it belongs to you. By starting the book and watching the story unfold from the beginning, the reader understands and feels the passion and conflict for themselves. While watching television, you visually see the story happening to someone else, so its much more difficult to use your imagination to put yourself in the story. Personally, I enjoyed reading this chapter because it was interesting to learn how much books have affected our society over the years. As television, along with the reality and drama shows that have become more popular, it would only make sense for the number of new book titles available to decrease each year. Although I am somewhat shocked to learn this information, my love for books helps me understand why so many others have chosen reading over television....
