EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThis paper covers an assessment of household solid waste management strategies in NakuruWest area, Nakuru County assessment. This research paper will cover the backgroundinformation of the study at the global and the national level; in Kenya. The main objective of thestudy is to assess household solid waste management strategies in Nakuru West area and help tocome up with new ways to manage the household waste. This main objective will help to achieveobjectives like assessing the type of household solid waste generated by households in NakuruWest area, determining how residents of Nakuru West area manage their household solid wasteand finallyassessing the challenges of household solid waste management among households inNakuru West area. The research methodology will cover the study area which is Nakuru Westarea in Nakuru county, the study population and the type pf settlement in the area. It will alsocover the research design and data collection techniques. The research methodology will help tocollect the primary data and will also help in analyzing the data collected by the researcher. Thedata collected will be analyzed using inferential statistics and descriptive statistics. 4

1.0 CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION1.1 Background InformationAccording to, (Hoornweg&Bhada-Tata,2012), waste is any substance that is unwanted,and it is disposed away after its primary use. It is true that what is what to one person may not bewaste to someone else. According to Basel Convention, wastes are substances that are intendedto be disposed by the provisions of national law. Waste is generated during the extraction of rawmaterials, during their processing or their consumption as final products. There are several typesof waste that is generated in the various parts of the world.
