Test Taking Strategies 1. Arrive early.  Allow enough time to compose your thoughts, sharpen your concentration,  organize your materials and relax. 2. Bring all materials to class:  pencils, pens, calculator, eraser, etc. 3. Listen carefully to your instructor’s directions and comments.  There might be changes in  the test or instructions. 4. Look over the test, reading the directions carefully.  If you don’t answer the question as  instructed, you may lose points. 5. Budget your time. a. You should spend much less time on a 5 point question than a 20 point one. b. Determine the amount of time you have to take the test, the value of each question  and then budget your time. c. If you have 20 questions and 60 minutes, spend 3 minutes per question; if you  have 4 questions, each worth 25 points, and 60 minutes, spend 15 minutes on each  question.
