Please take a moment to locate the following in the lab: 1. Fire Extinguisher 2. Eye Wash 3. First Aid Kit Springboard and the Principles of Biology Shortcut 1. Open Microsoft Explorer and type this address exactly: https://springboard.uakron.edu This is the Learning Management System for the University of Akron. Here you can find information on when labs meet and how to contact your TA. You can also access each lab and all of your lab grades. This website is available from any computer that has web access (on campus or at home). You must use your UAnet ID and password to access this site. Since you might not have this with you now, follow your TA as he or she provides you with a tour. 2. You may contact your TA using Springboard or at his or her UA e-mail account. All correspondence sent through Springboard will automatically be directed to a uakron.edu e- mail account. (You are able to send outgoing mail through Springboard but will never receive mail there). If you do not intend to check your UA e-mail account on a regular basis, you should forward your UA e-mail to the commercial account you check most often.

2 To have your e-mail forwarded go to https://gozips.uakron.edu/zid/app/ ¾ log in using your UAnet ID and password ¾ select e-mail ¾ near bottom of page click “Forward Mail” 3. There is an icon on the desktop entitled “Principles.” This shortcut will allow you to access material specific to each lab. After you click on the icon, you will see a folder entitled “Principles 1.” There are various subfolders within this folder, each specific to a different lab. The Scientific Method The scientific process starts with observation. In the two scenarios below we give you the observations, but in the lab exercises, you will make your own. This is an extremely important aspect of the process - maybe the MOST important - so please take it seriously.
