Unformatted text preview: La Rosa1 Melissa La Rosa Dr. Young Managerial Communication 2/7/12 Microsofts 2010 Annual Report The report that I chose to analysis was Microsoft. The website used to view this report is http://www.microsoft.com/investor/AnnualReports/default.aspx . Several annual reports were reviewed in order to gain a clear picture of the more common elements that make up an annual report. While most of the companies reviewed had suspiciously similar annual reports, which were generally extraordinarily long and dull, Microsoft, INC. was ultimately chosen as the company that effectively used elements of style and brevity to produce the best overall report. Microsofts 2010, Annual Report was an engaging reports that was clearly the product of much planning and collaboration. The nature of an annually report is generally written very directly and to the point, and Microsoft manages this while avoiding dryness or boredom. The design of the report is much easier to follow than other annual reports, with ample white space, disarming pictures and effective first and second-level highlighting. Visual aids are simple and conform to the overall look and feel of the report while communicating certain points and measurements that are helpful to the reader. In the 2010 annual report by Microsoft, you first will see the letter that is address to the shareholders and in the letter it goes into detail stating how in 2009 the global recession was one of the most changeling economic environments in the past 80 years for this big corporation.
