Project Report #1 Experiment: Baking the Perfect Cupcake Objective: The objective of this experiment is to determine which factors or combination of factors result in the best cupcakes. Specifically, the effect of the bake pan material, baking time, temperature, and position on cupcake size, uniformity, and color will be evaluated. Relevant Background Every time I bake cupcakes, they look different from the last time. I would like for my cupcakes to come out the same every time I bake them; I want them to consistently be big, round, and golden. Most cupcake recipes provide instructions on how to prepare the cupcake batter, but often omit detailed baking conditions. There are many baking conditions that can impact cupcakes including the type of oven that is used, the number of cupcakes that are in the oven at the same time, if the oven is preheated or not, the type of material of the cupcakes are baked in, the location of the baking pan in the oven, baking time and temperature, the cupcake cooling time and location, and many others.
