David Stern Statement As commissioner, I want to see these negotiations end with a success 2011-2012 NBA season. Unfortunately it is not as simple as we all wish it to be. We have compromised with the players, and believe that they are entitled to a majority share of the NBA’s revenue. We have scrapped the original idea of a 50-50 split in order to appease the players. It is my first and foremost priority to ensure the prosperity of the NBA both on and off the court. Without the players, this association would break at the foundation. That being said, I believe the players need to reflect upon what it is that their “foundation” supports. Since I took the position of commissioner in 1984, the league has evolved into one of America’s most popular sports. The NBA brings cities revenue through the use of arenas and other attractions. Hundreds of thousands of job opportunities have been created as well. The reason that the progression of negotiations has mitigated is due to our
