Week 6 Listening Questions TIN PAN ALLEY 1. Fill in the rest of the chart to indicate the form of "After the Ball." Make sure to give some comment to describe each section. Lyrics for verses 2 and 3 are written below. Form Lyrics Comments Verse A A little maiden climbed an old man’s knee Begged for the story, “Do, Uncle, please. Opening verse, meant to introduce the melody and chords and gather interest in the story to follow. A Why are you single; why live alone? Have you no babies; have you no home?” B “I had a sweetheart, years, years ago; Where she is now, pet, you will soon know. A List to the story, I’ll tell it all, I believed her faithless, after the ball.” Chorus After the ball is over, after the break of morn— After the dancers’ leaving; after the stars are gone; Many a heart is aching, if you could read them all; Many the hopes that have vanished after the ball. The chorus features new chords and melody, and new lyrics that highlight the song title.
