Lateral slits in the tread that help the tire grip the road. 5. What is a tire’s ‘bead’? It is steel wire coated with copper and rubber that is the lip of the tire that contacts the inside of the wheel and hols the tire on the wheel. 6. What are ‘body plies’ ? The layers of material between the two beads and under the tread 7. What is a tire ‘belt’? Two or more layers of material on topof the body plies and under the tread tht help the tried stay attached and last long. 8. What does the dot mean that is put on a tire by a manufacture? To mark the spot of largest diameter. 9. Explain what a ‘50 series’ tire is (aspect ratio) It’s aspect ratio is 50% 10. Define to following designations: LT, T, M+S, TR.
