Apollo’s speech In Defense of Orestes. As we commence these august proceedings, I would like to thank each one of you for being present today. Honorable citizens of Athens, we acknowledge and appreciate your time and sincere analysis of the sad events that draw us together. Although we are glad to see you, my client, Orestes, and I wish that it were not the case. For what brings us together today is indeed a sad event: the death of an Athenian woman. This is never something to be celebrated. Although she had her faults, which will be recognized later, she also did good on this Earth. Sister of Helen, lover of a king, mother of a hero, we do mourn your loss, for in your life many accomplishments have been made. Although her good may have outnumbered her bad - who are we to judge – her actions deformed her into a menace to our peaceful existence. To take the life of her husband, a king, is out of her hands. She, polluted with miasma, believed she had the right to choose life or death for her master? My dear Greeks, we all know this cannot be so. In
