Zach Holland Na Am Music Group 2 Review 9 Great Basin The Great Basins include present-day Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, California, Arizona, and New Mexico. Most of the region has a very arid and harsh environment due to surrounding mountains blocking rainfall. In the Fremont culture agriculture was not nearly as important as fishing and hunting for small game. Th most important crop was the pinon nut that has an elaborate ritual at the time of its autumn harvest. The Shoshone split up into three groups, the Western, Eastern, and Northern Group. The introduction of horses helped broaden these groups with the Northern and Eastern regions being much more suitable for sustaining horses. The groups started wearing buffalo skin clothing and building tipis. This reminds me of the “Hollywood” stereotype of Indians with the natives wearing feathers and buffalo skin, living in tipis. Especially like in the animated movie Peter Pan.
