Zach Holland Managing Sport Org. 1/19/12 Unit 3 1. What is the difference between goals and objectives? Goals: All organizations exist to achieve a particular goal or set of goals. The goals of a sport organization are extremely important for communicating its purpose and identity. One gage of effectiveness is simply how many games a team won. Much broader. There are official goals, operative, operational, nonoperational, short-term, long-term, and departmental goals. 3. Explain the five approaches in studying the effectiveness of an organization. Goal attainment approach- organizational effectiveness based on the identification of these goals, and how well the sport organization attains or makes progress toward them. Systems resource approach- based on open systems theory, organizations are not closed to the outside. They develop exchange relationships with their environment in order to obtain resources Internal process approach- effective organizations are those with an absence of internal strain, whose members are highly integrated into the system, whose internal functioning is smooth and typified by trust and benevolence toward
