Instead of trying to fight this, the city should just build wider medians to harbor the pedestrians that made it half way and then had to stop for oncoming traffic. This would reduce the chance of being hit by a car and improve safety. A second measure would be to install traffic circles in lieu of 4-way stops. Four-way stops are confusing to pedestrians who never know when to cross and fear the impatience of drivers who are just waiting for their turn to screech off the line. Traffic circles slow down traffic and promote a steady flow that encourages cars to yield to pedestrians crossing the street where there are designated crosswalks. Widening the medians of multi-lane roads and building traffic circles would enhance the safety of pedestrians in the City of Gainesville....
