Appendix D : Method of Instant Centers The method of instant centers is another approach used to obtain the first-order kinematic coefficients. It is a graphical method that uses the instant centers of velocities and relates this to the input angular velocity. It is a fast and efficient method to obtain an approximate solution. However, it can only be done for a particular instant rather than a number of iterations. The method of instant centers must be used for every instant wished to be evaluated. Therefore, if only a few positions are needed to be analyzed or to serve as a check, the method of instant centers proves to be effective. Case 2 was analyzed using the method of instant centers. The first check was done when the input angle was zero degrees and the second check was done when the input angle was 180 degrees. The method of instant centers is described for the input angle being zero degrees first. Figure 1 shows the diagram used to obtain the instant centers.
