POLI E470 Term Paper Guidelines One of the options for this course as part of the writing requirement is writing a term paper in lieu of the four short papers requirement. The point of the term paper is to show your ability to think of an interesting topic, argue why it is important to know about, and either describe what you learned or make an argument and show how your research either reinforces or weakens your argument. These term papers are not desired merely as summaries of what other scholars and writers think, but rather, should add your own twist based on interpretation of the research you conduct. The length of the research paper should be roughly 15-20 pages (double spaced), not counting your list of citations or cover page. They must be fully annotated with a bibliography and footnotes (and/or in-text citations). 1. Topic : You should have a general idea of the topic to me via e-mail by 10/28. The topic is fairly open-ended, but I must approve all topics for term papers. I would also like to talk with everyone who is taking the term paper option to discuss possible ways of conducting
