Actuators Peizoelectric Actuators A piezo electric actuator performs the same job as a solenoid; however, it accomplishes its task in a totally different manner. Instead of using an electromagnetic field to move the core of a solenoid, an electric charge is applied to a piezoelectric element. This causes slight, controllable, rapid changes in the geometry of the element (it expands) that can be used to mechanically move an object like a fuel injector needle.
