Checking for a Good Ground When checking for a good ground, perform the testing in a live circuit with a DMM. Start the engine to bring the system voltage up to normal. Place one meter lead at the battery negative terminal Place the other lead at the point where you are testing for a good ground. A good ground will show up on the meter as a very low voltage (typically 0.1V or lower). Note: Higher current circuits (headlights, starter, alternator, etc.) will have higher normal voltage readings. The higher the voltage displayed on the DMM, the worse the ground connection is. Look
