Diode Test Measurements Diode testing is not commonly performed on automobiles; however there are a few exceptions in Anti-Lock Brake Systems, Air Conditioning, and Lighting Systems. The diode test will check a diode's barrier (or turn-on) voltage. To test diodes with this feature you must place the selector switch in the diode test position as shown above.
