Distance Sensors There are two different types of distance sensors used on automobiles and trucks. Ultrasonic Sensors . Ultrasonic sensors are used as parking assistants on some vehicles. These sensors use sound waves bounced off objects to determine the distance between the object and the vehicle. Some vehicles have these on the rear of the vehicle, others front and rear. Some day we may see these types of sensors all the way around the vehicle. This type of sensor could also function as a blind spot sensor while driving. Radar Sensors - The Forward Looking Sensor (FLS) radar processes the road environment to get data concerning any vehicle ahead of the vehicle. This information can be used to adjust the cruise
