Fault List Developing a fault list is the first step of the diagnostic thought process. A fault list is a written or mental list of all the possible causes of the customer concern. Make no assumptions about whether or not an item should be placed on the list; put everything you think of on the list. This list should include even the most unlikely or seemingly impossible possible causes.
