Mama is calling you | 2012 | 150 x 200 cmMohammad EskandariHello Everyone,1. My name is Saam Kashani and my major is Anthropology. My level of background is that Iam a student at Irvine Valley College and I recently graduated High school back in 2015 of lastyear. My High school was in Irvine by UCI which was a great experience for me. I was also onthe Junior Varsity Basketball team for 2 years which was an amazing experience too. I am fromHuntington Beach and I have lived there for my whole life and it has been great experience forme. I am mainly interested in my major Anthropology because I feel that there is a world of howcultures existed back then and how are these cultures different from now. Also, how back thenpeople would become more ill than nowadays since the technology is more advanced thanbefore. I am very interested in my major and am looking forward in this class.2. For the piece of art that I choose, the photo represents a soldier from the Mediterranean Boldertrying to camouflage with its surroundings wherever he goes. The description mainly unfoldshow this artist, Mohammad Eskandari, develops a symbol of how his emotional craftsmanshipgives the audience his point of view. I mainly chose this art from this artist because it gave me arepresentation of how soldiers used to survive in the wars they fought. From the world view, ittells me how the world gets divided into other countries by these soldiers risking their lives and
family for just their country. Another good thing this picture gives me is that it represents howthe solider would also hid under the sea in order to not be seen by its enemies which is also aclever idea by the author, Eskandari. This artist is from a place I have heard of before that isnamed Tehran, Iran. However, I have never lived there, but seen great value of cultures that thepeople have. Another thing is that this artist has lived in Iran for most of his life and therefore hasthe most cultural experience for his country. In the image, there are many things that stirs upquestions such as how does the soldier be able to breathe underwater without having a tank ofoxygen behind his back like the scuba divers? This picture also makes me ask questions aboutthe world around me such as how are Persians smart at what they do in life. For example, theyare clever in the workplace that I have seen and the same concept applies in this picture. Forexample, at school, they can drastically solve hard equational problems that others can’t do sincethey never give up as also seen in this photo. I learned many new things from reading the artist’sstatement and trying to figure out his main idea based on his work of art since he insists on usingmore precision is his daily work of art. He also uses the visual style of graffiti such as Banksuthat makes the photo have a symbol of modern urban anarchism. Another new thing that Ilearned was that Eskandari.’s photo makes the audience view the soldier in the photo withconfidence and irony.
