Page 1 of 2 AA320 – Aerospace instrumentation Prelab Assignment for Lab 2 – Week of October 10, 2011 Please work through these problems before your lab session. 1. Wheatstone bridge : Consider the following bridge, where resistor R s is a sensor whose resistance changes with temperature: R s = R+ Δ R , where R is its resistance at some reference temperature T o , and Δ R is the change in resistance due to a temperature change in the sensor. The other three (ordinary) resistors in the bridge are chosen to have resistance R , and the bridge is "excited" by power supply voltage V . A digital multimeter (DMM) measures the voltage V ab between nodes "a" and "b". Δ Show that if Δ R << R , we have approximately: V ab = V 4 Δ R R . Suppose the characteristic of the sensor is Δ R/R = α (T-T o ) , where α = 10 -4 / ° C and T o = 25 ° C . If V = 10 Volts, what is V ab at T = 30 ° C? At 100 ° C? 2. Adding capacitors: Consider capacitors in parallel and in series: Parallel case . The same voltage Vc appears across C 1 and C 2 . Find charges Q 1 and Q 2 on

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
