1. The circuit shown is a resistive voltage divider.
The power supply with voltage V is connected to
two resistors, R1 and R2, in series.
You are to carry out a (longwinded) nodal analysis of the
circuit.
Although it is simpler in this case to just use the laws of addition of resistance, this
illustrates the ideas behind nodal analysis (application of KVL and KCL) that must be used in more
complicated circuits.
a) i) Express current I1 in terms of (unknown) voltage V1 and resistance R1.
ii) Express current I2 in terms of (unknown) voltage V2 and resistance R2.
iii) Use Kirchhoff Current Law KCL (continuity) at point (a) to relate I1 and I2.
iv) Use Kirchhoff Voltage Law KVL around the loop to relate V1 and V2 to V.
