Page 1 of 2 AA320 – Aerospace instrumentation Prelab Assignment for Lab 3 – Week of October 17, 2011 Please work through these problems before your lab session. 1) Inductors: The following LR low pass filter is supposed to attenuate (reduce the amplitude of) a 10 kHz input signal by a factor of 5. What value of L is required for the inductor? 2) Transformers: Consider a step-down transformer to convert 120 VAC (wall-plug voltage) to 15 VAC. Both voltages are rms values. What is the ratio of number of turns on secondary to primary ( n s /n p )? What is the amplitude of the secondary voltage? What is the peak-to-peak voltage on the secondary? If a 3 k Ω resistor were connected to the secondary what would be the average power dissipated by the resistor? What would the peak power be? With this resistor in place, what would the peak current be in the primary (coming from your wall plug)? 3)
